August, 16, 2023 Newsletter Quintessential Quote: "Fold and live to fold again." - Stu Ungar The News... Origin Stories Coming soon. I was speaking with one of our members at the Monday VFW poker tournament and realized that there was a lot I didn't know about this person.  As I was learning a lot of interesting things, I started thinking about all that I don't know about the rest of you fine folks.  So I decided to do a poker origin story on a different member each month.  I will be asking questions of one of you each month whether in person or via email or phone.  Don't worry, I'll keep it mostly about poker.  I think we are interested in how you came to find the game, what your motivations for pl...

August, 2, 2023 Newsletter The News..... First Monday Game - August 7th As I stated last time, the merged tournament on the 3rd of July was a huge success.  With Becci taking the first one down, I have a lot of optimism that someone in our First Monday group (formerly Joe's Game group) can do it again!  In the merged field, we had a total of 36 players and I feel we can beat that number.  What's more, I think our players got to know some new faces and playing styles which is always a win. Our next live game will be this Monday August 7th.  Start time is 6:30. If you have any questions on the format or buy-in, shoot me an email and we can go over it.   Poker Boom 2? I try to keep this newsletter short and to the point of ou...

July 14, 2023 Newsletter The News... Thank you to everyone that came out to our live game at the VFW on the 3rd of July.  I know with the holiday, some of you weren't able to attend but the 13 of us who did made some 36 total players and we had a great time.  I have been playing at that VFW game for a year or so and it was definitely the largest turnout and the largest prize pool in that time.  What's more, our very own Becci won it all.  Congratulations Becci! Our next live game will be Monday August 7th.  I hope we have an even bigger showing and one of the Freezeout Gang can do it again! If you have any questions on the format or buy-in, shoot me an email and we can go over it.   2024 WSOP Prize Package Parameters... I hope everyone has had a...

July 1, 2023 Newsletter The News.... Our test run of sending a player to the WSOP on a merit based points system was a resounding success!  Joe Schwenk won a $3040.00 prize package on a shortened 8 month points race and was able to pay for airfare, hotels, and 2 bullets into the $1000 Seniors bracelet event. After being coolered on Day 1A, set over set, Joe busted and lost his starting stack of 20,000 chips.  However, he was prepared and ready to fire again for Day 1B the next day.   Day 1B brought better fortune as he seemed to steadily chip up through the levels.  Joe fought through some turbulence around dinner time and by 11 pm, it was the end of the poker day and he bagged 88,500 in chips. Day 2 and 10 am came early for us all but Joe was ready to g...
