Let's get the word out to potential new players

The News...  Recruiting

Lets pick some responsible and fun people to join us.

The life-blood of any organization, company, or team is recruiting new talent.  Our poker club is no different.

Don't get me wrong.  I am happy with the growth of our group.  We have grown it slow and responsibly.  Our players pay their buyins, compete like adults (for the most part), and most importantly, have fun.

Like you, I would like to share the fun we have every Tuesday with a few more people.  Here are a few things I think we can do.

If you know a person that plays poker, mention our group to him or her.  You may be surprised that a lot of people are free on Tuesday nights and $25 fits into a lot of people's budgets.

When it comes up in conversation that you play cards, ask the person you are speaking with if they play or if they are interested in learning.  Our game makes for a pretty good entry level tournament.

If you know someone that always wanted to take a trip to the WSOP or is a "shot taker" in nature, mention our WSOP prize pool and points race.  This part of our tournament caters to a lot of people who like to compete in a year long battle for a big prize.

If you find yourself winded while explaining these things or don't have all the answers, give yourself a break and let me answer some of them on our blog page "joining the game".  What's more, we now have a qr code that can take them directly there.  You can find it at the top of this email in our logo.  Take a screenshot and you will be able to share it with anyone you are conversing with.

Lastly, thank you all for playing this game that we all love.  Without our fellow players, there would be no game.  So thank you for playing and thank you for bringing new responsible players into the fold.

We will be doing a Facebook live from the Galveston VFW on Thursday, May 2nd.  We will be crowning the winner of the 2024 WSOP package winner, announcing and awarding the second place prize, and we will have a live drawing for a $500 cash prize.  If you would like to attend, it will be at the twice weekly VFW poker tournament.  The Facebook live feed start time will be announced in the next newsletter.

This week's Tip of the Cap goes to.... Jonathan Ayala and Joe Schwenk.  The three of us were able to hammer out the guidelines for next year's points race.  More details to come on some small changes for next year.  Thank you both J & J for making this game run!

Zoom with Joe!  Joe hosts a free zoom meetup during our Tuesday Freezeout games.  Give it a try if that sounds like fun.

Check Raising.  Here is a move that some players overuse, most players underuse, and it is difficult to know when to use.

Daniel is going to give us the scoop on when to pull the trigger on this super bold maneuver.
